Hi everyone. Sharon had her first day in rehab today and they made her work! They had her walking outside, including up and down a flight of stairs. She also learned how to get in and out of bed. There will be plenty more PT tomorrow.
An internist also stopped by to see Sharon and to discuss a few issues. She has a pressure sore, so she will need to drink something in order to help rebuild the tissue. She also still has the Foley catheter in, so she will see a urologist about this and do another test to see if she can urinate enough on her own. She will also need to see a pulmonologist, as her lungs are not quite back to normal yet.
The final specialist she needs to see is a hematologist. Her blood tested positive for Heparin antibodies. If there is another positive, Sharon will need to go back to the hospital to get it reversed, as it can cause Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (low platelet count). Dr. Accola’s nurse believes it could be a false positive because Sharon’s platelets have been going up. Fingers crossed for a negative test next time!
In spite of the hiccups, Sharon is still positive as ever! She is worn out from the PT and looking forward to some good sleep. David and Davis are bringing Dolly and Brooks to the rehab for a visit on Sunday and Susan arrives, so Sharon has a lot to look forward to!
She appreciates everyone’s thoughts, prayers and support. She has really been enjoying reading everyone’s encouraging messages and experiences. She feels so blessed to have such wonderful friends, neighbors and family in her life.
Lots of love from Sharon,
Alyssa
