Hanging in there!

Hi everyone. This is Sharon’s friend, Alyssa. I’ll be updating the blog while Sharon is recovering until she’s feeling up to it.

Day 6: A little better today. Sharon was able to get down a smoothie and some bone broth. Solid foods are still a no go due to the nausea. The surgeon’s nurse came in and ordered a nausea patch for her. It’s working! The fluid on her lung is still there, but less today.

The biggest complication so far is that she can’t pee on her own. This can often be caused by anesthesia and pain medications, which can relax the bladder muscles and interfere with nerve signals that control urination. She currently has a Foley catheter, which will hopefully be removed tomorrow. Then she must urinate on her own by 6 hours in order to be able to go home.

She said she is so grateful for her wonderful family, friends and sweet neighbors. She said thank you for the kind, encouraging notes and for all of the love and concern.
